![]() ![]() ![]() I haven't tried Fade In, so can't weigh in on that.Įdit: The reason I have WD premium is because I collaborate with people who also have WD. I have both btw, but prefer FD even though WD is a little better at guessing what comes next. Subscriptions trick you into thinking they aren't that expensive, but if you write for two years you've spent 140% more than you would have on FD. For 2, if you're serious about writing you'll probably splurge on the $10/mo subscription (it makes saving and sharing multiple drafts and screenplays much easier) but I'd way rather pay $100 once than have a $10/month account. For one, you need internet access, which is annoying when you're out of the house in a café or library or wherever. Maybe it's because I learned on it, but I'm a fan. I haven't had problems with it in a long time, and it taught me how to format properly. Just want to put in my $0.02 for Final Draft. I just want to write and let the software do its thing. I don’t want to stop and format it every step of the way. I don’t want to act like I’m coding my screenplay. That process itself is just very annoying. Where as, in highland you have to stop and write the character’s name in all caps, which the software recognises as a character name. Which means my thought between one character’s dialogue and the other person’s reaction or dialogue is just unbroken. Then I press enter and then the tab button the next character just shows up. I write one character name then write dialogue. FD is the only thing that gets out of the way and just lets me rip. When you’re writing dialogues, especially a kind of rapid fire dialogue between two people, you just want to write and not stop and worry about formatting. Both feels less intuitive for me than FD. We are always working hard to expand the capabilities of Drafts and keep it up-to-date with the latest technologies.I don’t know why a lot of people here hate FD.

The petals inside this new style F-Connector “auto adjust” for different cable outside diameters. This also means you will need to break out a flaring tool in order to open up said outer jacket, potentially while cussing like a sailor while trying to force everything on. This means you have to jam a piece of metal between the cable outer jacket and first level braid shield. Traditional F-Connectors rely upon a sleeve system. Notice the circumferential “petals” in there? That’s why. Ok, so you may be asking why this universal F-Connector is able to succeed where many others have failed. For a great explanation as to how quad shield and dual shield RG-6 differ from each other see The Difference Between Dual Shield vs Quad Shield Coaxial Cable. The “DS” and “QS” you sometimes see tacked on the end refer to quad shielded coaxial and dual shielded coaxial cable, and will affect how thick the cable is. They are referring to RG-6 coaxial cable. These terms all essentially mean the same thing. You will see Series 6 coaxial cable and associated connectors referred to as: Therefore, we will continue to use it here, for simplicity if for no other reason. However, the acronym RG has continued to stick. In recent years, the term “RG” has been replaced in the ANSI/TIA 568.4-D and BICSI ITSIMM documentation to be “Series 6”. ![]() Before we talk about the solution, let’s sort out some naming and clear up any confusion around acronyms. Why hasn’t anyone focused on creating a better F connector for coaxial cable to deal with this? At trueCABLE, we were wondering the same thing and set out to make this process as easy, effective, and painless as possible. In other words, one RG6 F Connector is NOT the same as another and there is often little documentation or help to sort things out. The question is, when you buy a coaxial cable and try to put an F connector on, how do you know it will fit right? Some will be way too tight (to the point of not being able to get one on at all) or too loose. There is a standard for how thick RG-6 coaxial cable can be, which is 7.54mm and set via ANSI/SCTE 74 2011. From flaring tools to help stretch out the cable jacket so the connector can actually slide on to the cable, to tools designed to allow high leverage so the process of pushing one on does not damage your hands…or cause you to exert so much energy that you give up on the idea. If you look around the market, you will see many accessories to make it easier to put on the average RG-6 connector. Legends about how difficult it is to terminate quad shield RG6 coaxial cable strike fear into the average person’s heart. You will hear quite the earful of “war stories”. Ask the average installer about punctured hands, poked fingers, and other maladies. Considering this technology has been around for decades, the process of putting on coaxial connectors should be simple. ![]() One would think that RG6 F-Connectors on coaxial cable would have been totally sorted out by now. Has the KitchenAid made me a better baker? Only time will tell, but it’s looking very promising. The outcome was amazing light and fluffy buttery goodness which lasted about five minutes before being demolished by the rest of my fellow bazaarites. Thirty minutes and one, easy to clean, dishwasher safe, mixing bowl later, the Brioche dough was ready to rest overnight before baking fresh the following morning. Testament to the build quality it runs very smooth and quietly, even under the heavy load of kneading dough. The 10-speed control paired with the included splash guard means you do not get any flying flour or batter on your walls or face. First impressions this machine is very easy to operate, with a tilt-head design allowing easy access to the bowl and beater. This recipe first used the flat beater to combine the dry ingredients before switching to the dough-hook to tirelessly knead the Brioche mixture and combine the requisite 180g of butter typically the point of failure for both chef and mixer. Interestingly enough, even the original attachments will fit any modern KitchenAid model of stand mixer. With a multi-purpose attachment hub and a range of 12 attachments this machine can turn into everything you need to entertain in a fraction of the usual time. This is an important safety feature if you are not paying close attention while being distracted by other food preparation tasks, or let’s be honest, by that Instagram photo of last night’s dinner your friend just posted. The KitchenAid Artisan range also comes with an auto shut-off feature, meaning even if it gets a large workout whilst preparing large batches of bread, for example, and the motor gets up to potentially damaging temperatures, the unit will shut itself off. Direct drive transmissions are more often found in commercial-grade mixers, which add to the durability of the KitchenAid, a further example of why this is the professional chefs’ mixers of choice. Due to the fact that there are no plastic components in this appliance, there is very little chance anything will break.Īs evidence of the quality engineering, this stand mixer’s transmission uses a direct drive motion, meaning that there is no temperamental pulley system within the unit, which is one less thing that can wear out. The mixer is solid, all-metal construction, and comes standard with a flat beater for mixing most cake batters and cookie dough, a balloon whisk for adding fluff to scrambled eggs and meringues, and a dough hook for making artisan breads. The KitchenAid Artisan has striking looks: retro, but strangely timeless. Luckily I was given the opportunity to use a KitchenAid Artisan 4.8L…and I will never look back. Having listened to friends raving about their experiences with the ‘’brand the professional chefs use’’ for years, I knew this was something I had to own. ![]() ![]() ![]() I have yet to find a device that my Arduinos have been unable to talk to.Ī couple more components (in the schematic I've been using, a diode, an opto-isolator, and a couple of resistors) allows the Arduino to receive MIDI via its serial port (I haven't yet tried this with Soft Serial but I have good reason to believe it may work.) It also may be possible for an Arduino to emulate USB well enough to fool a computer into accepting a MIDI signal via USB. As one example of designing a new physical layer, a single resistor is all you need to get an Arduino micro-controller to spit out not-quite-standard, but still quite readable MIDI. MIDI is, as a language, quite simple and robust, and so is the physical layer. It is when you geek out a little, though, that things really open up. I hasten to add that Sound Cue Systems and SFX also have these abilities, plus there are some other tricky ways you can get the same kinds of interactions with other software or even hardware options (I've done more than one show with an old Roland "Doctor Sampler.") A Korg nano-key has been good for that I double-stick tape it to the top of the sound board and mark off the "Go" and "rewind" keys with board tape and Sharpie. On the flip side of the interaction, I prefer using MIDI surfaces to control Qlab, as MIDI "Go" and "Stop" commands will execute regardless of where the cursor is or if Qlab is even focused. So Qlab could actually do something to a rafter. On a dance show a little while back we ran the entire show from Qlab, and while each music track was playing multiple Qlab auto-follow cues spat out MIDI Show Control commands to the lighting console, calling up non-sequential access lighting looks.Īnd when you include MIDI Show Control, there are motor controllers that respond to MIDI. There are lighting consoles (and some automated fixtures) that already speak MIDI. There are control surfaces (such as, the Korg nano series - I have seen video of a Korg nano-slider being used to control remote cameras in real time) Or the Behringer BCF2000, a motorized 8-fader control surface, that are already capable of communicating via MIDI. OSC gives you more detailed control and is the current choice among experimental musicians.īut MIDI is out there. I've seen workplaces with Mac Minis tucked behind display screens running video loops. What would Qlab do with a rafter? Or would it be ON a rafter? Since it is software, it can't "be" anywhere by itself, but you could certainly stick it on a Mac Mini and stick that in the rafters. (That particular search seems to turn up mostly references to James Bond computer games.!) I wonder what it was they were trying to find, and if anything I wrote was any help at all. A recent, excellent study by Litheko Modisane, South Africa’s Renegade Reels: The Making and Public Lives of Black-Centered Films (2012, Palgrave-MacMillan) looks at the social drama Mapantsula (Oliver Schmitz, 1988) rather than The Stick, when discussing the twilight cinema of apartheid – possibly because the latter, as a horror film, wears its generic identity over its social-political one. ![]() The Stick (1988), directed by Darrell RoodtĪs this month brings us the 25 th anniversary of democratic elections in South Africa, and given my current in-the-works book for Edinburgh University Press ( Images of Apartheid: Filmmaking on the Fringe in the Old South Africa) it is interesting to look back at this troubled period and see that, far from an ostracised state in seclusion, the country actually had a thriving film industry that existed in at least some sort of dialogue with the rest of the world. Unfortunately, Roodt – whose recent credits include the slightly-less-lofty sequel Lake Placid: Legacy (2018) – rarely has his name raised in discussions of any so-called ‘highbrow’ horror. The strangest thing about Us, however, is that it made me think about a little-known film from horror’s past – The Stick, shot and produced in South Africa, released in 1988 and directed by Darrell Roodt. Us even concludes by asking if true horror comes from the inside and, in a possible nod to Swimming with Sharks (George Huang, 1994) ponders upon just how far one might go in order to gain a better chance in life – pointing to the concrete jungle of Los Angeles. Indeed, a recent IndieWire article even asked, ‘Is “elevated horror” a real thing, or is it just a reductive way of forcing a high/low hierarchy onto a genre that has always struggled to be taken seriously?’ Certainly, as with his Oscar winning Get Out, itself indebted to the work of John Frankenheimer’s Seconds (1966), Peele raises worthwhile questions about race and class identity in Us and provides no easy answers. Last year’s superior possession shocker Hereditary (from director Ari Aster) and the recent release of Jordan Peele’s Us has resulted in a new term, ‘elevated horror’, being introduced into the critical lexicon, much to the chagrin of many fright-fans. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you want to make editing for you image file, fetch its editing tools to proceed further Launch GIMP and start uploading your PNG image with the help of its “Open” option You can even get different tools including color balance, colors, resize, flip, layers, exposure, paint tools, and more for editing concerns.
